The second film follows the darker mystery of the Chamber of Secrets while keeping the broad visual continuity of the first adaptation. Hogwarts becomes more labyrinthine, the wizarding world's prejudices become more explicit and Tom Riddle enters the story through the diary.
It is one of the closest screen companions to the early books and preserves many school-centred details that later films streamline.
